Me Cumpari Turiddu today also becomes a farmer
The scent of aromatic herbs, the warmth of the sun on the skin, the smell of fruit ripening on the trees. The countryside always contains so much poetry. Poetry full of memories and metaphors, particularly strong symbolic images, especially in this period.
In this time of apparent stasis, we have channelled our energies to finally make a project that had long remained only a sprout bloom.
For years, in fact, we have nurtured the desire for our restaurant to have its own vegetable garden, one that would combine all those values for which Cumpari Turiddu has always been a spokesman: the valorisation of the territory, respect for seasonality, and the recovery of roots.
This project began with the cultivation of citrus fruits and the production of our jams, which were followed first by tomato and onion jams, and today also by vegetables for the restaurant kitchen. Now we can finally announce that another piece has been laid. Turiddu’s vegetable garden is a reality.
On the family’s property, in Contrada Moasi Acquaficara in the district of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto in the province of Messina, the first seedlings of tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, courgettes, garlic, onions, potatoes, but also parsley, basil and mint are about to bear fruit.
Cumpari Turiddu’s summer menu will therefore feature our own vegetables, grown according to an agriculture we like to define as ‘normonatural’, following the rhythms and laws dictated by nature.
Very fresh vegetables with a genuine flavour, fertilised only with natural manure and cultivated following all the good agronomic practices aimed at preserving soil fertility.
A very short supply chain that will allow us, even more, to control every production step to guarantee ourselves and our customers.
